The Official Website of the Bearland Micronation
Bearland is a sovereign Arctic micronation that declared independence on September 7, 2025. It sits at 81° North, further north than almost anywhere else people have ever tried to plant a flag. Calling it remote would be an understatement, it’s ice, snow, wildlife, and silence for most of the year. That remoteness is the point, Bearland is meant to stand as both a statement of sovereignty and a promise to look after the Arctic rather than exploit it. Bearland’s claim isn’t about resources or power. It’s about preservation, about proving the Arctic has its own voice in a world that too often writes it off as empty space.
The Bearland Palace keeps that voice connected to the outside world. It’s the place where explorers, researchers, environmental groups, and the simply curious can reach out and learn more about what Bearland is building. Whether you call yourself a citizen, a supporter, or just someone interested, Bearland has always left the door open to people who respect the North and what it stands for.
Travel Advisory: Winter in Bearland is rough. Getting there usually means an experienced Arctic crew and specialized transport like helicopters, ski planes, icebreakers, or sometimes even subs depending on ice conditions. The wildlife might look cute, but it can be dangerous, unpredictable, and fatal. Weather can flip fast, and the cold and wind chill can cause frostbite in seconds.

The Bearland Bear (BBR)
The Bearland Bear (BBR) is the official currency of Bearland. Notes are currently issued in eleven denominations: Cubs: 1, 5, 20, 50, and Bear: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100. In 2025, Ƃ0.10 and Ƃ200 denominations were also issued and are still legal tender.

All notes, regardless of type, are recognized as legal tender for all debts, public and private within Bearland and are valued at a fixed standard of 10 Bear (BBR) per troy ounce of silver. The Treasury of Bearland carefully manages the life cycle of its currency. Every note issued is formally entered into the public record at the time it leaves the Treasury, and any note withdrawn from use is accounted for, recorded, and then destroyed under secure procedures. The symbol of Bear is Ƃ, just like the symbol of USD is $.

Silver Certificates
Silver Certificates remain the foundation of Bearland’s currency. Each Silver Certificate is anchored to Bearland’s silver reserves whether physical or paper.
Treasury Certificates
To broaden the system, Treasury Certificates were created as a parallel note. They maintain equal value with Silver Certificates but draw their backing from Bearland’s Foreign Currency Reserves instead of bullion. This approach lets the Treasury expand the money supply and support economic growth while avoiding the continual expense of acquiring more silver.
Bearland Dollars
The Bearland Dollar is the newest addition to Bearland’s monetary system. Issued under the full faith and credit of the Government of Bearland, these notes carry the same face value as Silver and Treasury Certificates but are backed solely by the authority of the state. The Bearland Dollar provides the flexibility required for modern fiscal policy while circulating alongside the other note types.
Before the issuance of Silver Certificates, Bearland’s circulating currency consisted of Silver Demand Notes, a short lived series of banknotes that directly represented a claim on physical silver held in the nation’s reserves. Each Silver Demand Note was redeemable for its face value in troy ounces of silver bullion at the Bearland Palace. These notes marked Bearland’s are an important part of its monetary history. Silver Demand Notes lost their official status as “Demand Notes” on September 14, 2025. An exchange period followed, during which the notes could be exchanged at face value for the new Silver Certificates. That exchange window closed on December 14, 2025.
All Time Silver Demand Note Mintage Records
For a short time after the Silver Demand Notes were retired, Bearland kept its currency equal to silver ounce for ounce with Type A Silver Certificates, meaning 2 Bear was 2 ounces of silver. Then the Silver Standard shifted to a ten to one ratio where 2 Bear is 0.2 ounces silver. The Type A Certificates began withdrawal on September 27, 2025, and ceased to be legal tender at midnight on January 1, 2026. These certificates were succeeded by the modern Type B Silver Certificates, Treasury Certificates, and Bearland Dollars, which together form the foundation of Bearland’s current monetary system.
