Today, the Head of State announced significant changes to the Bearland Silver Standard. Under the new policy, the Bear will be redenominated so that 10 BBR = 1 troy ounce of silver, replacing the original standard of 1 BBR = 1 troy ounce of silver.
This change will take effect with the issue of newly designed Silver Certificates later this year. When the redenomination officially begins, all notes will still be valid and exchangeable during the transition period, but they will then be recognized at 10 times their current face value. For example, a 0.1 BBR note will be honored as 1 BBR under the new standard only once the change occurs, not before.
This change will take effect with the issue of newly designed Silver Certificates later this year or early next year. Until that time, all existing Bear notes remain valid at their current face value only.
The Treasury of Bearland wants to make it clear that this redenomination does not diminish the silver backing of the Bear. Instead, it recalibrates the number on the note to make daily use more practical.
Along with the redenominated Bear comes the introduction of Cubs. Cubs are the new fractional unit of the Bear, designed to make everyday transactions easier. Just as other nations use cents, pence, or quarters, Cubs represent smaller portions of a Bear. 100 Cubs make up One Bear.
Planned Denominations
- 2.0 BBR (Two Bear) → 20 BBR (Twenty Bear)
- 1.0 BBR (One Bear) → 10 BBR (Ten Bear)
- 0.5 BBR (Point Five Bear) → 5 BBR (Five Bear)
- 0.2 BBR (Point Two Bear) → 2 BBR (Two Bear)
- 0.1 BBR (Point One Bear) → 1 BBR (One Bear)
- 0.05 BBR (Point O Five Bear) → 0.5 BBR (Half Bear)
- 0.01 BBR (Point O One Bear) → 0.1 BBR (Ten Cubs)
- 0.005 BBR (Point O O Five Bear) → 0.05 BBR (Five Cubs)
- New – 0.01 BBR (One Cub)
The Head of State had this to say on the matter, “This is a wonderful step for Bearland, much simpler. Now when you go to a shop that accepts Bear, you can be rung up and hear ‘Your total is 2 Bear and 15 Cubs’ and you’ll instantly know what that means: 2.15 Bear. I know you already know what 0.215 Bear means instantly, but it just sounds better than saying that, clearer, more natural for everyday use. I love this system, and I’m aiming to have it fully in place by 2026.”
